Ofsted

It’s Official: Priory is a Good School!

On the 14th and 15th of November Priory School underwent an Ofsted Inspection. I am delighted to say that we were graded 2 – “Good” – in all areas. This excellent result properly reflects the hard work and commitment of staff, governors and, of course, our students over the last two years.

Inspectors were highly complimentary of our teachers and recognised that “teaching is good throughout the school and enables students to achieve well”. They also noted the “positive relationships” that support staff have with students. Because the length of an in-spection is only two days, some areas do not get a chance to be observed – in particular our outstanding achievements in sport.  However other areas did get due recognition, with inspectors recognising that “staff make effective use of new technologies and visual supports” and that “the teaching of expressive arts is strong throughout the school.”

There was high praise for the behaviour of our students; inspectors noted that students are “polite to visitors and show great maturity in their social behaviour as they progress through the school” – which is also, rightly, an acknowledgement of you as parents and carers. And may I also thank all of you who were able to respond to Inspectors – the re-port indicates that “parents and carers are unreserved in their appreciation for the safe climate of the school”.

I am also very pleased that there is proper recognition of the Governing Body which “understands the school’s needs and is challenging and supportive of leaders in their drive to raise achievement”. It rightly notes that our Chair, Julia Furmanski, is “passionate in her drive to ensure that the students at the school have the very best resources”.

This Ofsted report places Priory School in a very strong position in the run-up to our move next year. I would like to extend my sincerest congratulations and thanks to all the students, staff, Governors, parents and carers.
