MEET THE GOVERNORS

George Bamber - Chair of Governors; Health & Safety LInk Governor

George is a commercial property solicitor, acting for landlords, tenants and developers on a range of legal and commercial issues. He also has experience of advising on the legal aspects of construction and infrastructure projects.   George is passionate about ensuring high quality education and opportunities for young people and has worked as a mentor with young adults in the past.  He enjoys current affairs, keeping fit and following sport.  George took up the Chair of Governors post in October 2020.

Julie Evans (Headteacher)

I have worked in Special Education for the past 18 years and in senior management for the past 10 years, I have worked with children and young people from 4 to 25 and have a passion for increasing performance and improving outcomes.  I have worked as a class teacher, Head of Literacy and AAC, Head of Education, Vice Principal and Head of College.  I have always worked with children and young people with complex needs and have had a particular focus on those with Autism and behaviours that may challenge.  I have worked with the National Autistic Society reviewing services seeking to be Autism Accredited as an external assessor.  I am particularly interested in staff development and well being as well as supporting parents and carers.

Mr Andrew Slegg (L.A. Governor)

I work in Croydon Council’s Learning Disability Commissioning Team for Adults where I am passionate about giving people opportunities to talk about their lives and how they can be improved. I enjoy working with the members of the Priory School Council, both at school and in different community settings. I am also keen to support the excellent arts-related activities that the school provides, as well as the wonderful outdoor, Forest School , element of the curriculum.  My other interests include philosophy, country walking, natural history, football and dancing.

Juanita Cumberland (coopted Governor, Finance Committee member, Eco-School Link Governor)

Juanita is a medical negligence solicitor.  She acts for patients who have suffered as a result of negligence by doctors and hospitals. In the past, she also dealt with education negligence cases. She enjoys cooking, films and keeping fit.  Juanita has been a member of the Finance Committee for a number of years, as well as Safeguarding Link Governor,  and has recently taken on the role of Eco-School Link.

Funke Lara Payne (coopted Governor, Vice-Chair of Governors, Chair of the Finance Committee, Safeguarding Governor)

Lara has been a member of the Governing Body at Priory School since May 2017.  Lara has a background in financial services, including internal audit and schools' finance,  She has been a member of the Finance Committee for a number of years and has just become Chair of the Committee and Vice Chair of Governors.

Jonathan Wiltshire (Staff Governor)

I have worked as a teacher at Priory School since September 2010.  Before coming to Priory, I worked as a secondary learning support teacher and before that a primary school teacher, developing expertise in MLD, literacy difficulties, EBD and inclusion. I am currently the virtual school lead at Priory, responsible for coordinating local authority- supported looked after child (LAC) provision.  I value the opportunity to bring my professional experience to support the Governing Board’s knowledge of the school,  and contribute to the outcome of policies and the strategic management of the school for the benefit of all students and staff.

Mrs Anna Haywood (Co-opted Governor)

 I have been a staff member of Priory School since November 2009 and I currently teaching PE across all the Key stages. Prior to joining   Priory board of Governors I was a Governor at a local Croydon School for 9 Years. With my knowledge and experience both as a member   of Priory Staff as well as a serving Governor I believe I can make valued contributions to Priory School's growth and success.
